Baileys Shooters

The world debut of Baileys Irish Cream in 1974 was to revolutionize the idea of shots and shooters. A shot was traditionally from hard liquor such as Bourbon or Tequila and was drunk for a couple of reasons - to warm you up when you came in from the cold or to speed up the road to oblivion.

Baileys added a creamy flavor to shots and made them more widely enjoyed (whether that's good or bad is up for debate). The word shot and shooter are both used to describe the same drink depending on whereabouts you live.

Shots have moved a long way since they were first served and are often very colorful with a mix of different spirits and liqueurs. Basically they are now seen as more of a mini cocktail. Shooters can be served in shot glasses, double shot glasses and even liqueur glasses.

Baileys Irish Cream is such a delicious flavor that plays well with other drinks that it belongs in a plethora of shooter recipes. It is impossible to name them all on one page, but here are some delicious ones for you to try.

Modern Look Baileys Irish Cream

More choice in flavors

New flavors of Baileys means that there are even more recipes that will call for different types of Baileys Irish Cream. Here are just a couple for you to try for starters, but don't be afraid to substitute one of the original Baileys in some of the previous recipes for one of the new flavors - Baileys Mint Chocolate and Baileys Caramel.

Baileys Choc Mint Twist
10ml Baileys Mint chocolate
10ml Creme de Menthe
10ml Dark Creme de Cacao .

Layer the ingredients in a shot glass in this order - Creme de Cacao, Creme de Menthe & Baileys on top.

Baileys Golden
10ml Baileys Caramel
10ml Golden Rum
10ml Butterscotch Schnapps

Layer the ingredients into a shot glass working up from the bottom of the list.

But, How Do I Layer My Shots? - Achieving the Stunning Look of These Shooters

It's all very well to give you these recipes, but layering shots isn't always as easy as it looks...........unless you have the right tools that is. The trick is to slow down the flow of the liquor as much as possible so that they don't mix, doing that is the tricky part.

Spill-Stop Mfg. Co. Twisted Dime Bar Spoon 10.5''Spill-Stop Mfg. Co. Twisted Dime Bar Spoon 10.5''
I tried using the back of a teaspoon, it sounds easy enough - no! I should just add though that the shots still taste nice, layered or not, we're just searching for the whole package!

Next I read that you just needed to tilt the glass slightly when pouring - big no!

Then entered The Dime Spoon (on the left)

The dime spoon makes layering cocktails and shots nice and easy and is a must have bar tool if you want to absolutely wow your friends with some amazing layered shots.

See below for a video of the dime spoon in action.

So now I want to know - which Baileys shot or shooter is your favorite?  That's if you're able to limit yourself to just one of course!

Alcoholic Coffee Recipes

Delicious Coffee Recipes with Bite!

Who hasn’t gone out to dinner and ordered a special liqueur coffee to finish off their meal with? It’s a lovely treat and one which I personally enjoy on occasion, but did you know it’s easy enough to replicate these alcoholic coffee recipes at home?

One of my aunties made me my first alcoholic coffee drink when I was still a few months under age (don’t tell my dad!), it was delicious although the coffees I choose to enjoy now are a lot more sophisticated than that one which was made with instant coffee, sugar and vodka!

Let’s have a look at some delicious liqueur coffee recipes….

Irish Coffee Recipes

How to Make Irish Coffee

I think one of the most common types of alcoholic coffee drinks are Irish coffees and there are lots of different recipes for Irish Coffees available from the whisky inspired (classic) Irish coffees to the Baileys Irish coffees (my preferred type).

Irish Cappuccino

This recipe isn’t your usual Irish coffee recipe as it contains Baileys instead of Irish whisky, but I’ve listed it first as Baileys is one of my favourite liqueurs (alongside Kahlua and crème de cacao!). You will need –

5 oz hot coffee
3 oz Baileys
Nutmeg
Sweetened whipped cream (or dessert topping)

All you have to do is pour the Baileys into the cup and top up with the black coffee then stir the drink together. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle some nutmeg on top – delicious, although I must admit I will often substitute the nutmeg for shaved chocolate!

Irish Coffee

I’m not a big whisky fan so I haven’t actually made this recipe, but it was given to me by a friend who swears it’s delicious and it makes up 6 coffees. You’ll need-

4 cups of fresh coffee
1 cup whipping cream
½ cup Irish Whisky
¼ cup sugar
2tbsp sugar
2 tbsp Irish Whisky

Pop the coffee along with ½ cup of whiskey and ¼ cup of sugar into a saucepan on a low heat and cook, but do not let it boil. Whip up the cream adding the remaining 2 tbsp of sugar and 2 tbsp of whisky as you do.

Pour the coffee evenly into the cups and then spoon on the whiskey cream on the top to serve.

Normally Irish coffees are served in a glass (like the majority of liqueur coffees in fact), but if you had one of these mugs wouldn’t you prefer to serve them in it? The first is just a funny Irish Coffee mug which would certainly look good while you’re drinking it and would also make a great St Patrick’s Day gift for any Irish person you know!

These next ones include their own recipes – two have versions of Irish Coffee and the other one has what sounds like a delicious version of a Baileys Irish Coffee which they’ve named the Steamin’ Irishman.

Liqueur Lattes

Delicious Alcoholic Coffee Drinks

There are lots of different flavoured liqueur lattes that you can make and one which I often serve when I’m having friends over for dinner is a Frangelico Latte.

Frangelico Latte

1 shot Frangelico
1 shot espresso
Steamed milk
Milk Foam or Whipped Cream

Simply pour a shot of Frangelico into a cup and add a shot of espresso before popping in the steamed milk. Stir the liquid all together, lifting from the bottom like you would if you were using a syrup instead of a liqueur. Top with foamed milk or whipped cream – I always use foamed milk on mine, but if I was after a more decadent drink I’d use the whipped cream and top it with a little chocolate syrup and chopped hazelnuts.

Other Liqueur Lattes can be made the same was, but just substitute the Frangelico with your favourite liqueur, ideas include –

  • Kahlua
  • Crème de Menthe
  • Chambord
  • Baileys
  • Sambuca

Amaretto Coffee

My friend made this for us one night and I have to say it certainly gave me a kick (not sure if it was the recipe or because I was feeling tired!).

1 ½ cups of coffee (she used an instant coffee, one of the Mocconas)
½ cup Amaretto
Whipped Cream

This made two cups because neither of our husbands drink coffee! She simply poured the Amaretto into the cups then added the coffee, stirred it together and topped with lashings of whipped cream!

Nuts and Berries Mocha Espresso

This is a simply delicious coffee, I usually like my coffee with milk (ie a latte or mocha), but the sweetness of the Chambord and chocolate and the nuttiness of the Frangelico really leaves you feeling totally satisfied without any dairy added!

You will need –

¼ cup freshly brewed espresso
1 tsp Frangelico
1 tsp Chambord
1 tsp chocolate syrup

Simply pour all of the ingredients into a coffee cup and stir together – does it get any easier to make than that?!

Alcoholic Cappuccino

Now this is a recipe that I came across which looks very delicious and is one I’m hoping to try soon, it sounds like a deliciously creamy alcoholic mocha so I’m not sure where the name Alcoholic Cappuccino came from. Both rum and brandy help to intensify the flavour of chocolate (crème de cacao is a chocolate liqueur) so I’m itching to have some people over to try this out!

You will need -

3 cups coffee
3 cups half and half
4 oz crème de cacao
2 oz rum
2 oz brandy

Pop all of these ingredients into a saucepan together to heat through and then pour into cups to serve. I think that I would personally froth up some milk and add a little milk foam on the top and some grated chocolate which wasn’t in the original recipe, but looking at the ingredients I think it would really add something to it.

Baileys Cocktails

Baileys Irish Cream

Orgasm - a Baileys Cocktail Source: Stuart Webster via Flickr
Baileys Irish Cream has been a staple part of bars and many homes since it's inception in 1974. When it was first introduced to the world a cream liqueur was a novel concept and the world took to it immediately. Baileys is a combination of Irish whiskey and the finest Irish cream combined with a chocolate and caramel flavoring.

The 1980s cocktail scene saw a growth in the number of creamy cocktails being drunk, this was due to Baileys. Baileys mixes so well with so many other liqueurs and spirits that it really is a must have bar essential.

To make the Orgasm cocktail featured here simply take 1 oz of Baileys, 1 oz of Cointreau and 2/3 oz of Grand Marnier Liqueur - add to a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well and strain into an old fashioned glass. As you can see from the image Maraschino cherries make a great garnish!

Baileys and Kahlua

Coffee and Cream, a match made in heaven

Baileys mixes especially well with Kahlua as the cream flavors of the Baileys enhances the coffee taste of the Kahlua. I have combined the two of them really well in my own Choc Bunny cocktail and here are plenty of other cocktails with both Baileys and Kahlua in them.

Choc Bunny
1 part Baileys
1 part Kahlua
Chocolate milk

Shake Baileys and Kahlua together in a shaker with ice. Strain into a highball glass and top up with chocolate milk. This is one of my favorite go-to Baileys cocktails and I actually based it on cocktail named something bunny (I forget exactly what) which I had on the Kookaburra Queen in Brisbane. That cocktail used 'normal' milk, but one day at home I happened to have some chocolate milk and I thought using that in the cocktail would be nice.....I no longer make it with 'normal' milk and I renamed it the Choc Bunny because it really is a delicious, chocolately glass of heaven!

¾ shot amaretto
¾ shot frangelico
1 ½ shots Baileys

Place all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

Burnt Almond Martini
1 ½ shots vodka
½ shot kahlua
½ shot Baileys
½ shot amaretto
2 shots cream

Place all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. To serve stain into a cocktail glass.

Baileys Smoothie
½ oz Baileys
½ oz Kahlua
½ oz Advocaat
2 oz cream
1 banana
½ cup ice

Place all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a goblet to serve with some grated chocolate sprinkled on top.

Baileys with Mint?

A delicious combo

Baileys creamy flavor also complements creme de menthe really well as these cocktails will show.

Snake in the Grass
2 parts Baileys
1 part Creme de Menthe
cream (optional)

Place the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

Midnight Mint
1 ½ shots baileys
¾ shot white creme de cacao
¾ shot green creme de menthe

Place all of the ingredients along with some ice into a cocktail shaker and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

Baileys and Chocolate

Chocolate and Cream, a real treat

Cream and chocolate are also tastes that go hand in hand and the same goes for Baileys and Creme de Cacao.

Quick Alexander
1 part Midori
1 part Baileys
1 part Creme de Cacao
3 parts cream

Place all of the ingredients, along with ice, in a cocktail shaker and shake. To serve strain into a cocktail glass.

Orgasmatini
2 shots vodka
1 shot white creme de cacao
1 shot baileys

Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

Of course you've also got another type of Baileys which further shows how well Baileys and chocolate go together and that's Baileys Chocolate Luxe - one word, delicious. It's delicious on its own or substitute original Baileys for it in any of these recipes for a divine twist.

Baileys and Malibu

Coconut Cream - what more is there to say?

Coconut is another flavor that go well with cream. Take the coconut rum of Malibu and add it to the creaminess of Baileys and you are on to a winner.

Caresser
1 part Baileys
1 part Malibu
4 parts milk

Place Baileys into a hurricane glass, add the Malibu and then the milk, carefully stirring.

Mother
2 parts Baileys
1 part Malibu
1 part vodka
dash of grenadine
½ cup ice

Place all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a goblet to serve.

Baileys and Fruit

Fruit and Cream, simple but delicious

Fruit and cream often go hand in hand with desserts, here are some sweet cocktails that prove that the creamy taste of Baileys also works well with fruit.

Irish Banana
1 part Banana Liqueur
1 part Baileys
1 part cream
½ banana
½ cup ice

Place all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a hurricane glass to serve.

Strawberry Kiss
30 ml Baileys
30 ml vanilla vodka
60 ml apple juice
5 ml grenadine
2 strawberries

Muddle the strawberries and vanilla vodka in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the rest of the ingredients as well as some ice and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

Warm Baileys

Ideal for cooler temperatures

A warm cocktail is always delicious when the temperature starts to fall and Baileys can be heated without losing any of it's creamy flavor.

Cookies and Cream Cocktail
8 oz Baileys Irish Cream
8 oz Amaretto
½ tsp ground cinnamon

Combine the Baileys and Amaretto in a small saucepan and gently heat over a medium-low heat until warm (not hot). Stir in the cinnamon and pour into cocktail glasses to serve. Sprinkle extra cinnamon on the top if you desire.

I was shocked to realize a couple of years ago that not everyone has what I grew up calling a milk pan! If you don't already have one then consider buying this one to warm your Baileys in.

I love to use mine to make all kinds of hot chocolate drinks from classic to Mexican hot chocolate to adult versions and more.

As well as warming my Baileys up that is :)

Still on the Bailey's theme making a hot chocolate and adding a slug of Baileys is another delicious way to enjoy your Baileys on a cold winter's night.

There are a number of new flavors of Baileys available in different parts of the world from Hazelnut to Mint, Caramel and the chocolate I've already mentioned. These lead to even more fun cocktail recipes to try, if you have a new flavor and you're not sure how to use it the just start by substituting it for the original and see if you want it mintier, more chocolatey, nuttier etc and then add more of those flavors to it.
